Opened in June of 1922 by Emery Whilton, this four-story hotel quickly became the social center and principal gathering place in Tulare for many years. The hotel hosted many noteworthy people such as President Herbert Hoover, Bing Crosby, Jimmy Duarte, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, and John Wayne. In May of 1983, an arson fire destroyed this landmark and the businesses Golden Thimble, Cassidy's Shoes, Anne Gerald Stage 3, Casa Crystal, and Souza's Jewelry. It was also the demise of the detailed plans of restoration that were about to take place.
