Artist Jana Botkin is well-known in the Central Valley for her wonderful pencil drawings. So some of her followers might be surprised that her upcoming exhibit at the Tulare Historical Museum will be comprised of her oil paintings.
"Images of Home: Paintings by Jana Botkin," will open on Thursday, May 5 and will remain on display through July 16, 2011.
Botkin was raised near Ivanhoe. She has a degree in art from College of the Sequoias and has worked in art and art-related businesses since college, primarily under the name Cabinart. See her website at www.cabinart.net.
"I had reached a point in my pencil drawing where nothing felt like a challenge," she said. "An interesting result of learning to paint is that my pencil drawings have changed as I learned things about making art."
Botkin works from her home studio in Three Rivers. Her art depicts scenes from nature, the Sierra, fruit, flowers, and people. She has also done interior and exterior murals. She and her husband, Michael, spend as much time as possible at their cabin in a remote part of Sequoia National Park.
